West Marin County Cowscape
Welcome to the sonomapicnic.com Cheese Shop. We would like to introduce you to our friends at Tomales Bay Foods, home of the Cowgirl Creamery at Point Reyes Station (in West Marin County). Owners Sue Conley and Peggy Smith make and market their own Cowgirl Creamery cheeses, as well as retail and represent the products of a number of area farmstead producers.
If you are planning a holiday to or live in the Bay Area, we hope this feature will serve as an invitation to visit Tomales Bay Foods and the lovely West Marin and Sonoma County dairylands that lay between Highway 101 and the Pacific Coast. This dramatic landscape of water, woods and windswept pasture can normally be reached from the Golden Gate Bridge or anywhere in Sonoma or Marin counties in about an hour's drive.
The area surrounding the Tomales Bay, known for breathtaking scenery and wide-open spaces, is also home to cheesemakers, dairy operators, oyster farmers, grape growers, olive-oil producers, and farmers of cool-weather crops like artichokes and lettuce greens. It is one of the "least spoilt" regions that is best discovered by looking for foods produced by the people who live there. Tomales Bay Foods is committed to strengthening our community-based economy, preserving the beauty of the land, and bringing quality food to the marketplace by promoting small-scale food producers and farmers. Tomales Bay Foods' producers use environmentally sound agricultural methods and share their passion for offering the highest quality handcrafted foods to you.
